Bilby
I'm a Bilby
Bilbies are shy, nocturnal creatures native to Australias desert regions. The Greater Bilby has a distinctive white-tipped tail, long and highly sensitive ears and a pointed snout. They are nocturnal animals and spend their nights digging burrows or searching for plant bulbs, seeds or insects to eat. Bilbies are endangered in Queensland and vulnerable nationally. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is part of a national Bilby breeding program in collaboration with Save the Bilby Fund. This will ensure there is captive insurance population to help save the Bilby from extinction through releases to the wild.
Greater Bilbies’ large ears are hairless and believed to help them regulate their body temperature.
